# How to Change the Egg of a Server

> Pterodactyl uses **Eggs** to define how a server runs an application. You can change the Egg of your server directly from the server settings.

### Step 1 — Open Your Server

Log in to your NexCloud Panel and open the server you want to modify.

Open the **Server Panel**.

### Step 2 — Stop Your Server

Before changing the Egg, make sure your server is completely stopped.

Open the **Console** and click **Stop**.

### Step 3 — Open Server Settings

Navigate to the **Setting** section of your Pterodactyl server panel.

This is where you can manage the server's Egg and startup configuration.

### Step 4 — Select a New Egg

Find the **Egg** option and select the Egg you want to use.

For example:

* Node.js
* Python
* Java
* Generic
* Other available application Eggs

Select the appropriate Egg for your application.

### Step 5 — Review the Startup Configuration

After selecting the new Egg, review the available startup variables.

Some Eggs require additional configuration such as:

* Startup command
* Docker image
* Application version
* Environment variables
* File name

Make sure the values match your application.

### Step 6 — Save the Changes

Click **Save** or **Save Changes** to apply the new Egg configuration.

### Step 7 — Start Your Server

Return to the **Console** and start your server.

Check the console output to make sure the application starts correctly.

> **Important:** Changing an Egg can modify the server's startup configuration. Always make sure you have a backup of important files before making major configuration changes.

## Troubleshooting

If your server does not start after changing the Egg:

1. Check the server console for errors.
2. Verify the startup command.
3. Check the required environment variables.
4. Make sure the correct application version is selected.
5. Restore your previous Egg if necessary.
